The Old World Shines Again

Zelda: 1900 - 1948

Year: 1924
Location
Paris - Street cafe

The Americans have 'invaded' France en masse.

A waiter at a typical Paris pavement cafe sums up the scene:-

You see them everywhere
The Yankee millionaires
They're having so much fun it seems
As they permeate the bars
With cologne and big cigars
And the champagne flows
Like fountains from a dream

Chorus
Lovely ladies, it's tomorrow
Close your eyes now, sleep will follow
We'll start over, when the lights come on
And the old world shines again

Their French is not so good
But still they're understood
The dollar has a lot to say
And every maitre 'd'
Is awfully please to see - sir and madam
From the good old USA - USA - can I say?

Chorus
Lovely ladies, it's tomorrow
Close your eyes now, sleep will follow
We'll start over, when the lights come on
And the old world shines again

They sail across the sea
To savour 'gay Paree'
And marvel at the haute couture
They love to be a crowd
And they party very load
And always winter on the Cote d'Azur

Chorus
Lovely ladies, it's tomorrow
Close your eyes now, sleep will follow
We'll start over, when the lights come on
And the old world shines again
